Chapter 4 — in TRP channels as Therapeutic Targets Targets (Second Addition Book 2024)

Abstract

In this chapter, we define ion channel thermosensitivity and focus on exploring the temperature sensitive transient receptor potential channels, thermo-TRPs. The discussion revolves around the structures, thermodynamics, and molecular determinants of temperature controlled thermo-TRP gating. We summarize the current understanding of heat- and cold-sensing mechanisms and their significance for organismal physiology and highlight unanswered questions.
